One of America’s much loved sports is baseball. The sport is also a fun way to exercise and socialize. But, baseball has its own peculiarities that may lead to foot and ankle injuries to adults and kids whether they play in big leagues or pickup games with peers.
Running the bases may cause a player to fall down and leap up with a torn ligament, a bone bruise, or any other foot and ankle condition. Players whose shoes’ spikes or cleats get wedged on the grass may also suffer from cuts and bruises, foot fracture, twisted ankles and so forth. Just like its hard-court contemporaries, baseball players are at risk of blisters, ruptured Achilles tendon, fractures, plantar fasciitis and many other foot and ankle problems.
To avoid these conditions, follow the following baseball foot tips:
• If you’re a non-pro player, check out for yourself if the baseball ground is in good condition since you have no ground keeper to do it for you. Watch out for anything that can trip you off like bumps or holes.
• Run around the ground to get used to it before playing.
• Practice base running and avoid discomfited or unbalanced motions. Awkward movements especially in young ones may cause them to trip off.
• Keep your focus when running. Distractions may cause falls.
• Pick the right size of baseball cleats. You can ask an expert in the shoe store or walk around with it for a while and check for irritation or any discomfort. You should also keep your eye on signs of irritation like redness or blisters. If you find it hard to get the right size, talk to a podiatrist.
• If you’re a pro, you can use your spikes to slide but if you’re a non pro, be very cautious of your spikes when doing this. Tripping up a sliding player may cause serious injuries.
